Katydid!
Image
Canon 10D, 180mm, 1/60sec, f16, ISO400, twin flash fill, tripod

This is one where cross polarization might have helped. I got a lot of glare reflections off the wings and body. I still liked the overall effect. This is a female. Wil can probably tell us what species it is.

Has to be one of the best Katydid shots showing the ovipositor like that, in that position. Phew !!!

:D  You nailed this one Steve. cross polarised flash reminds me of ring flash to be honest so I prefer this. It helps gives it texture and depth .....IMHO anyway. Man she is one busy Katy here Steve, gorgeous colours of course and brilliant sharp details M8t. I wish this was mine Steve. Oh boy. :D

All the best up north Steve, I wouldn't change a thing.

Great colors and composition, excellent detail. Could some of the glare may be from the sun,a nd not your flashes?

The combo of colors in the flowers, the background and the katydid is awesome.

It sure could Tom. This was in full sunlight and the flash was just for fill and I think dialed down to -2/3 or less.

Even with the glare, (which is not bad at all I might add), makes this a killer shot!!!
Nice comp, colors, and love the details that Katy has!! :)

Gorgeous. She looks like Scudderia furcata, Fork-tailed bush kaydid. All of the Scudderia are very reflective. I found that in lue of cross-polariztion that keeping the flash units off to the sides as much as possible works well to control the worst of the reflections.
Excellent shot.
Thanks for positng,
