Nice pussycat! I like the background showing the cats home turf and how it is intent on something just out of the frame.

Excellent EJ. I really like the background rocks, the raised foot and the "ready to pounce" look.. Well done!

Nice one. Are its eyes blue, or is it the angle and overcast light?

One of those blue-eyed kitties again, on the prowl! I like the implied action of the image and the setting is so nice for him.

E.J., thought you had a rarity. The photo in the Audubon Field Guide to N.A. Mammals (an old edition, 1980) shows pale yellow.

The adults have yellowish green eyes, the babies have blue eyes. I think this is an adult which should have more light green to yellow then blue eyes..Really dont know when they change colors... FWIW

All of the ones I've seen have had bluish eyes - interesting info, perhaps they get them in middle age :)

From what I have seen, the eyes change around the end of the first year, as the spots are fading. Most adult have pale green eyes. I have seen a few that still have a pale bluish cast but most tend more to green. This cat is over 2 years old.

Nice shot EJ.

Mr. Peiker, your photography amazes me! Wow. You just wander around and a cougar appears, click! Beautifully exposed and composed. Sigh

 I wish - this is a model temporarily released in this area for the purpose of photography - the little (c) indicates that as per the site's guidelines.

Thankyou for explaining the (c) E.J.; that does help to explain the availability of the subject material. My apologies for not reading the guidelines thoroughly. I live in nw Alberta where these critters live in fairly large numbers I am told, and there are occassionally human and pet "encounters". However, most folks, including myself can not testify to ever seeing one in a lifetime. Great photo!

I spent 120 days on a South Texas ranch in 2000 that had a resident mountain lion (same species, different name, as cougar/puma/panther). The ranch manager, out and about every day for 20+ years, had seen the lion four times. That still makes lions much easier to see than the highly secretive, highly nocturnal Ocelots, present in good numbers on the same ranch. No one on the ranch had seen one except when they were trapped (and later released, of course) by researchers.
