I just heard about this bill on the morning news. It really shows how powerful industry is in destroying the environment through the pockets of politicians:

How can the mines not accept responsibility for the land they just utilized and made fortunes from????? There is no regard for future generations at all and what will be left behind, or not. This probably has the most effect on the copper industry in SW NM. I once did assignment photography for a mine to show how the land was restored after extraction processes. The elk were re-populating the area nicely and the Four-winged Saltbush and Winterfat were covering the ground well. I was impressed. To lose this would be a shame. There have already been other attempts to allow more groundwater pollution from mining and oil interests here in NM.
