How can I add a watermark to my images (in order to minimize their use by others on the net)??

Folks, I cleaned up the original thread so that the intended question is being asked.

In the Filters section in Photoshop, there is a section called Digimark - if you click on it, a watermark filter is an option.

What protection does a watermark filter provide then? I'm guessing it is some sort of invisible (in terms of the viewed image) embedding of copyright info. Am I close?

Yes, you are 100% correct, you can read the watermark with the watermark reader in the same menu.
