Lion
Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia EOS10D, 500F4L IS, 1.4xExtender II, iso 100, F7.1, 1/20 I guess this one qualifies as a motif, he's around 18 months old or so. We found this pride of seven on a regular basis most days. This particualr day we found them about an hour before sunset. We parked up nearby and just sat with them. There were three young ones and they had started to wake up before the elders. This male was laying down behind a tuft of grass when we arrived. After a few minutes the curiosity got the better of him and he crawled over and poked his head through the grass to see what we were. I managed to get two shots off. I looked up to see just how close he was and maybe take off the 1.4x, looked back through the viewfinder but couldnt get focus again. He'd moved. Where ? His head was six inches below my lens No kidding. He'd walked right up to the vehicle and sat down underneath where my lens was hanging over the side. This is probably not that scary, but take a look at the Land Cruiser that we were sat in. I was kneeling in the footwell immediately behind the driver with the lens resting on a beanbag over the side. A very special moment. Even more so for Carol... Dave
