Bull elk bugling

During the RMPA workshop this weekend in Rocky Mountain National Park, we had some wonderful examples of bull elk in rut. This bull was gathering a harem of 16 or so cows. It was late in the evening and cloudy, so the light was a challenge....

Nikon D1x, 200-400 VR +1.4 TC at 440mm, on Wimberley mount, ISO 500, 1/60 sec, f7.1

I really like the image. Of course the technicals are good, but including the young cow with the bugling bull really tells a story. Great Job.

Fine image Bob, shots like this always say to me Winter is approaching! and the fall shades coming through in this picture, coupled with this behaviour mean just that! 8) 8) 8) :)

An excellent combination of behavior, habitat and beautiful animals. You can't ask for much more. Although it does appear that he's robbing the cradle with that small cow... :oops: :shock:

Bob, a bit more breathing room around the subjects would further enhance this already fine image.
