Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Travel and Culture Gallery, week ending 7th September, 2012!My second image in NSN and my first one in this gallery.

In late spring, I shared with my older son (10 years old) his first night at the mountain sleeping under the stars. To do this, I choose a natural park near Madrid (Spain), known as La Pedriza, known for its huge granite blocks, with names that refer to its shape (El Pájaro, La Muela, Los Guerreros … y much more), criss-crossed by numerous climbing routes.

I took some pictures, of which probably, this is the one I like most, when the sun has set and begin to appreciate the first stars (like Procion) in the horizon.

You can see a larger version of the image on this entry of my photo blog (in spanish ... with automatic translation easily accessible), as well as details of the session and other images.

Technical issues:
Canon 40D, Tokina 11-16, flash, flashlight, level and tripod.
11mm, 25s, f/6.3, ISO800, color temperature 7000 K
RAW developed in DPP.

C&C welcomed.
Thanks …

Very nice Juan -- welcome to the forum. I can see why this image would be a favorite for the family gallery -- very creative lighting to capture the moment!

Gary, thanks for the welcome.
I used the flash at minimum power and the diffuser to illuminate the foreground (needed several shots to achieve uniform illumination) and flashlight, slightly attenuated, inside, to illuminate his face (did not expect that this light tinted the rock with the red color of the tent ... have imagined, would have softened a bit more).

Very nicely balanced scene. But even more important- a lasting memory for you and your son. Well done.
