On our day in the Nationalpark Switzerland we saw some quite tame marmots. But they were moving fast: Looking, Running, Looking, Running, ... and that in the tall grass. Additionally, it was only possible to approach them against the light - it was a cloudy and sometimes rainy day.

That's what I got handheld.

Canon EOS 10D, 4/300 L IS USM
ISO value: 200
Metering mode: Evaluative
Exposure mode: AV-priority
Exposure bias [EV]: 0,0
F-Number: F5,6
Exposure time : 1/160
Converted from RAW with Phase One, no alterations but a little bit USM

Any comments are welcome

Bernd

Nice shot and the low angle really takes the viewer into the Marmot's world. 8) 8) 8) :)

Great capture Bernd !

I know difficult it is, they always seem to pop up in the place you least expect them to and by the time you have aimed and focused they are gone !

Well done and thanks for sharing,
Rudi

Looks quite a bit different from the Yellow-bellied Marmots in the American west. A very nice shot - love the claws.

As E.J. says, this guy looks different from our local marmots (except, unlike E.J., my local marmots are hoary, not yellow-bellied, but the two species are pretty similar). Our marmots aren't likely to be seen in so much grass, either.

The exposure on the face is great, especially considering the backlight. Great job!
