Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Birds Gallery, week ending 4th May, 2012!
Image

This was shot on last year's Japan workshop. We were lucky to get different sorts of weather, so we ended up with a large variety of shots of these magnificent birds. On this particular morning it was snowing heavily, which was great for photography.

I just realized the larger snow flakes resemble dust bunnies, and I would like to know if you'd take them out for that reason.

Thanks!

Marsel

I think the snowflakes should stay, they set the overall mood that works well here.I really like that you included both a swimming and one coming in to land in this scene.

Nice scenic, Marsel. In 2006, I remember lying on the ground almost at the water line to shoot these with a 28-135 lens but the snow had stopped by then. I would clone out the apparent dust bunnies
Enjoy viewing

Love the perspective here. The whites and greys work so well together with that pop of yellow. I second Jim's suggestion to clone out the snow bunnies.

Marsel - your shots are always an artistic step above the rest, and always worthy of making into a print. Fantastic image here.

A beautifully compose image, Marsel. My guess is that in a larger print, the snow would look much more apparent as snow, in which case I think it adds to the mood. Nice work.

Marsel, this is very pleasing...I love the way the water cuts across the lower portion of the frame at an angle, and all the birds are in great poses. Very nice work!

I would clone the ones that have been distorted by the lens and don't look like snowflakes.

Great atmosphere and sense of habitat Marsel. You nailed this. What was your focal length and aperture?

Thanks for your comments - much appreciated. I will clone out the largest flakes, in particular the ones just in front of the flying swan that look too much like dust bunnies to me.

Kari - this was shot with a 70-200/2.8 VR II @ 70mm, 1/1250 @ f/8, ISO 800.

The swans are totally relaxed with out presence, which makes this place such a great photography spot.

Beautifully serene image.
Love this. Like the balance created by the water vs. the fresh snow.

No to the question regarding taking out the snowflakes. I guess I see them as snowflakes.
