I really appreciate the effort here with the in-camera composition, David. The space on the right and the lookback pose are great. In a perfect world, that vertical branch wouldn't have descended behind the bird but I still think this is a different and successful image of this subject.

Cheers,
Greg

This is truly a lovely capture, and I think it would do well in certain contests. It has a variety of elements and is quite artistic. While I agree with Greg about the offending branch, it's nature, and you have created a truly pleasing image.

very well done, love this one! Always nice to see these loose shots, and the snow really adds.

Thanks everyone! I agree about the branch but what bugs me a bit more is the little twig sticking up in front of the wing.

I LOVE the feel of this shot! What would you say to a crop off the right almost halfway?? I just don't think the OOF branches do anything for the shot at all.

Thanks again for the comments. Paul, thanks for your thoughts on this. I think it works because of those oof branches. I think they carry the bird's over the shoulder look out through the lower right of the comp. and it was just dumb luck that the vertical oof branch mirrors and balances the branch the bird is on.

At least, I think it does. :)
