Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Wildlife Gallery, week ending 16th December, 2011!Here is a shot of a Captive adult male (Silverback) Western Lowland Gorilla at Howlett's Zoo, this Zoo is a world leader in it's Gorilla breeding programme, they have released 14 back into the wild!.
As Zoo's go, Howlett's is superb (regarding how it cares for it's animals and it's conservation efforts).
So my title is really just for moody narrative purposes (and certainly not meant to demean the wonderful Zoo that I took this shot at).
The image reminded me of a (human) prisoner kept in dark "solitary confinement", with a shaft of light to convey the solemn mood of the "prisoner"......I hope this 'idea' roughly translates to a captive great ape, as this was my intention.......although, this captive "prisoner" is as innocent as they get, he is an incredible animal, I just hope my photo has done him some justice..?
Thanks for looking, C&C most welcome, cheers! :)

Dramatic, powerful - and very poignant image Steve. Superb. I really love this!

I also agree with you about Howletts. An amazing place.

Love the mood. You could also say "film noir" like.
