Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Flora and Macro Gallery, week ending 1st July, 2011!This is a pre-visualized affair. Getting everything right was a fairly major technical undertaking. These widows were in huge numbers in AZ this June and their nightly ritual was to exit holes in various structures and descend downwards to a hunting zone of their webs. The webs were usually based around a knot hole. I got the idea to mix the cold and warm colors from an image i saw on another forum where the photog was shooting ice abstracts but had a small fire burning nearby to create warm reflections in the cold ice.

D300, 35mm f2.0, 2 flashes

Enjoy!

Scott

Excellent composition and a wonderful mix of colors and light. Looks like a big production to get light, background, and subject in line.

This is one of the most unusual and interesting images that I have ever seen.
I can't imagine how much work must have been involved, but it certainly turned out to be well worth it.

Very original and unique Scott--puts a splash of people perspective to what usually is tough to do. Congrats and well deserved!

Paul

I got bit by one of these one time.

Hey Steve and Paul, Thanks for the feedback! I found myself oddly attached to this image and although it did not set the forums on fire, I got some quality feedback from two credible sources and IOW from the mods.
