Canon 1VHS, 700-200/2.8 + TC1.4 + 500D @280 mm, Velvia@40, EV +1/3, BULB 6 sec, Nikon 5000ED full frame

Ok, here is my second attempt in macro. The flower is called "Zonnehoed" in Dutch so I need some help translating this :) The image was made in my garden, it is a long (about 1 meter) flower with purple leaves and a big yellow hat. I carefully composed to have spme of the leaves in as I like the color contrast between the yellow and purple. Another option would have been to concentrate on the yellow alone, but I could not get that into full frame... what you do think ? Thanks for your comments - cheers, Dick

I haven't got a clue what it is but I like it. I like the comp as is, but would stop down a but more if possible.
*edit* just seen the 6 second exposure time, I guess you couldn't afford to stop down any more.

Dick-
The common name for this flower in the US is Purple Coneflower. The Velvia's slow speed doesn't leave you much leeway to push up the shutter speed or increase the depth of field. Having taken this in the garden, I think its pretty sharp and the depth of field is adequate, especially considering your 6 second exposure! The background looks very nice. I might try for wider view next time so you'll have a little more depth of field to work with. Also consider picking one (You did say it was YOUR garden, right  ), and shooting it indoors by window light. Very nice image!

Nice shot, balanced composition. I think a background color that contrasts better would give it more zing- green would work, or something zippier. I think the long exposure may have stolen some sharpness. Purple coneflower (Echinacea) it is!

The detail may not be quite there in this shot, but close enough!
Still, ........... I like it! :)
