I have a client that wants us to varnish some prints for him that will leave a texture...either brush strokes or small orange peel type. I know there are varnishes out there that do that as I have seen them, I just don't know any product names. Can anyone help with this? I have a spray system so it can be either sprayed on or brushed / rolled. Help! Thanks!

all you have to do is do it wrong. sugestions might include turning down the air to your hvlp gun so the varnish dosn/t atomize corectly. or leave the cap off the can so the varnish thickens up to much before using. heat the piece up so the varnish dries too fast. put varnish on in to thin of coats.

for brush marks try thickening the varnish (leave some out exposed to air in a tray to allow some evaportaion). then put it on aplieing too much. you cuould also try using the wrong brush (a latex paint brush)

you might try to second coat to early, spray one coat wait a certain fraction of the recomended dry time and then recoat. if you do this method wait about three times the recomended time befor "heavy usage before releasing the print to the client, ie. if the instutions say to wait 24 hours before heavy usage wait three days before letting it out of the shop.

do any experimentation on the same surface type as you plan the finish piece. (canvas, gloss paper, mat paper ect) as dring times has a lot to do with these imperfections.

here is a site that tells you how to do it right, just reverse the sugestions to do it wrong.
