I wonder, with most of the laptop and desktop screens having at least 1400 pixels or more on the long side why is the posting size limited to 800 pixels? I know some people might be concerned about image theft but most of what you can do with a 1024pixel image you can also do with 800pixels in terms of printing. The problem I have is that subtle beauty and feather detail is often lost after I re-size my photos to 800 pixels, they just lose their magic :(

Because at least 25% of our viewers still cannot view anything larger without scrolling - ESP verticals. That said we are working toward a better solution so stay tuned...

Thanks, if you are looking at web statistics for screen resolution the 25% is probably coming from mobile devices(?) Vert I agree 800pix is enough, but for horizontal...

Ahazeghi,

If by "mobile devices", you include smaller laptops and netbooks, you may be right. But I think those need to be considered. (I wouldn't worry about people checking into NSN on their iPhones, though.) My own laptop isn't terribly small, but is getting a bit aged, and its vertical resolution is 800 px, which already means I can't see a whole image inside a browser frame if that image has more than 750 or so vertical pixels. And when I replace that laptop, I want to get one which is physically smaller (although it's certainly possible a smaller screen today will have more pixels on it), as I dislike travelling with the big one.

The solution to that would be adding a feature that allows automatic or manual resizing based on the screen resolution, the iphone screen actually has better color/contrast reproduction than the lousy/cheap LCDs found in netbooks and small laptops...not bad for displaying photos :)

Arash - yes you are correct that is the solution. However it is easier said than done but we ARE working on getting to that point...
