Giant Panda - San Diego Zoo, California
EOS 1D Mk 2, 100-400 @ 400, ISO 400

Greetings from very slow dial-up land - it will be difficult for me to review many pictures this week. here is a 9 month old Giant Panda from the San Diego Zoo. Shooting the Pandas here is an exercise in frustration since you are hurried through and not allowed to stop. Even stopping for 10 seconds gets you the wrath of the zoo staff and then, most of the time the Pandas are sleeping or turned away from you. In addition, the light level is very low except when its sunny and then it is dappled and almost impossible to shoot. Sob, story aside :), I decided to go in real tight on this one to eliminate all of the distracting surroundings.

Cut the whining  and stop apologizing for a nice shot! You've got 10 seconds and this is the result? A panda lying down with its teeth showing around a piece of bamboo. Nicely captured! Only question is the green on the top right of the leaf. Was he really moving it that quickly that 1/400 wouldn't freeze it? If so, WOW even more to catch this shot!

Its movement, the shot wasn't taken at 1/400 it was somewhere around 1/50 - it was ISO 400 at 400mm - I don't have the exact data with me but I was pushing the limits.

Yes, quit whining about slow dial up too!! - we live in a permanent slow dial up zone here and it takes me ages to see and comment on all these images!!  Just a short distance away is all singing- all dancing high speed broadband, but our street is on fibre optic cable and that won't do......Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Apart from that.......this is a beautiful catch of a Panda going what he likes to do best - eat Bamboo shoots!! 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

Quit exercising your 'whine' chromosome. Very nice grab shot under difficult conditions. I wish it were mine.
