this erratic is about 14 ft high. it was (and still is) high up on the rising forest floor along the shores of hungry bay on middle saranac lake above our recent campsite. 4 kinds of light - direct late day light , soft indirect light in the forest and on the erratic, reflected sky light (esp on the bkgnd birches), and a weird light reflected from the water surface (esp on the erractic where multiple shadows are evident). i find the color that results from the multiple color temps of the various sources very interesting. to my eye and sensibilities, this photograph is about the sensations of color as opposed to the sensationalizing of color which always draws so many "wows". as always, comments and reactions are appreciated. Mark Hobson My photographs aim at being true, not at being beautiful because, what is true is most often beautiful. |
