this erratic is about 14 ft high. it was (and still is) high up on the rising forest floor along the shores of hungry bay on middle saranac lake above our recent campsite.

4 kinds of light - direct late day light , soft indirect light in the forest and on the erratic, reflected sky light (esp on the bkgnd birches), and a weird light reflected from the water surface (esp on the erractic where multiple shadows are evident).

i find the color that results from the multiple color temps of the various sources very interesting. to my eye and sensibilities, this photograph is about the sensations of color as opposed to the sensationalizing of color which always draws so many "wows".

as always, comments and reactions are appreciated.

My photographs aim at being true, not at being beautiful because, what is true is most often beautiful.

Works for me. The spotlight on the FG tree, and the diagonal shadows draw my eye in, then I can explore the darker parts.
What are the white things on the ground on the right? They look a bit like bones to me.

This image has great depth. I love how you can follow the light through out this image. Great work!

neil,

the white things are shards of birch branches.

There's a great depth to this picture that sucks you in and makes you pay attention to the layers of light that are happening here. Very nice.
