Check out the new Video Sharing and Discussion forum at the top of the forum index or click the links below:

http://www.naturescapes.net/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=58

The new forum allows all registered users to embed Vimeo or YouTube hosted video to be viewed and discussed directly in the forums. You can embed video when starting a new topic simply by inserting the link just below where you would normally upload an image.

My vision for the future is a much slicker interface for this and other forums and this is something we are working on in the coming year. There are no thumbnails for the forum yet, since most would just be black due to the nature of embedded video from other sites, but this too is something we will address down the road along with the possibility of paid members being able to host video directly on NSN.

So, for now enjoy and let us know your thoughts - we are always open to ideas especially when we introduce a new feature to the site. :)

I hope I can get some of my questions answered here!

I would like to suggest that people post their technical information just as they would in the other forums. Video using a still digital camera is new to me and every bit of information is valuable including software!

Thanks Greg, E.J. and NSN for doing this!!!

That's a good idea Eleanor and one we strongly encourage. Also, once things get going a bit we will split the forum and have a dedicated video discussion forum.

I have some HD video that I shot with my 5D2 last spring of sage grouse dancing and ruffed grouse drumming but have no idea how to process it. My knowledge level in this area is zero. I would appreciate a step by step discussion or a link to such so that I can post the video here.
Thanks,
Bob

I like it and plan to continue to contribute. My recommendation would be to apply a time limit to submissions if possible. Speaking for myself I'm still used to moving quickly through forum posts. 8-10 minute videos are those I pass over in a forum setting. 1-3 minutes I'll sit through. I'm enjoying videos that are <1 min in length particularly those showing animal behavior or time-lapses.
Regards,
Jim

I just wanted to thank you Greg for thinking ahead of the curve on this and inviting me to test out the forum before the launch. From the few videos I have seen so far, there has been a lot of inspiring material already posted.

Great to see a dedicated video section! Quite a few forums out there should be doing this but aren't so good you are ahead of the game :D

Great new forum, congrats!

Question - is there a way to embed videos at native Youtube sizes, i.e. 480x295, 560x340, 640x385 or 853x505? It seems that the embed algorithm is "stretching up" the video to larger than a native size, hence VQ as embedded appears not optimal unless the HD option is clicked.
