The Nikkor 24-70mm lens is shown as back-ordered by B&H, Adorama, and Amazon. Does anyone have any input as to when this item is likely to be available?

Nobody here would know but Nikon continues to underproduce lenses that aren't a pure consumer product and it is very annoying. One theory is that the US is getting much less than demand because the margin that Nikon gets from product sold in the US is much less than virtually anywhere else on Earth.

Nikon makes lenses in batches and as of late has seriously underestimated demand for much of their top-end glass. Thom Hogan (bythom.com) has had lots to say on the subject, but the bottom line is, it takes time to produce the glass and if they previously underestimated demand, they are out and it will be a while for the entire process to come together.
