My five years old (bought from new) 1D2 has served me well. I noticed recently a thin vertical red line develops and appears one third from the right of the LCD. Is this a sign of a failing LCD? Anyone has any experience? Is it worth replacing since it doesn't affect the images captured.

Yeah it's a problem with the LCD or the decode circuitry that feeds the LCD. You can fix it but as you say it doesn't affect the pictures. However it could also be the start of a deteriorating condition and it could fail on you completely... or it could run another 10 years like that. :)
