One of my adventures this summer is to head into the back country to photograph a wolf pack. I've already visited the area and observed lots of wolf/moose/elk droppings so I know this will be a good location.

I'm wondering if I should buy a nightvision monocular so that I can extend my observing time into the night. My budget would be $500-600 so not looking at generation II or III devices as they're way out of my budget.

Are the sub $1000 devices effective for wildlife observation or are they a waste of money. I've read mix reviews and would like to hear from actual photographers who are familiar with them.

Thanks

Little to no detail in Gen I. Gen II is not bad. Check out ATN. Their stuff is the best buy for the dollar IMHO.

Ended up purchasing the Yukon Ranger 5X42 digital monocular. So far I've been very impressed with the image quality and range of the unit.

For those of you that want to extend your wildlife observation into the night this is a great accessory!
