This is a black-backed jackel. They had to work very hard to chase off the vultures long enough to feed themselves. Jack Sullivan has some images showing the jackels kick-boxing at the flying vultures with their rear feet.

Cropped narrow to reduce clutter.

You made a very interesting, and I think attractive image out of what could have looked like a gruesome bloody mess through many lenses.

At first I wished that the feather did not obscure the left eye. But the more I looked at the image I decided the composition was stronger and had more tension with only one eye.
