I do not do much Bird photography, mainly due to other interests and partly due to the fact that I do not have enough lens power, but I did enjoy Thursday evening.

We always get burrowing owls at the Wichita Mountains NWR but they are always back in the restricted area that is closed to human kind so, I would always just view them from the binocs. Well, this year we have a pair at the main prairie dog town where all the visitors go.

A friend of mine and I were able to set up about 30 yards from these two on a dirt road. We just sat all evening waiting for some action. The hard part is to not get distracted by the prairie dogs running all over :)

Anyhow, D60, 300mm w/2x, 1/800 sec SS, f5.6. Cropped from horizontal.

Brent, great action shot, well done. Considering the endangered status of Burrowing Owls overall, we need more of this sort of thing!!

Hi Brent! Way to go on the action; good planning, I would say. I think the crop works well, I like the composition and color (white balance); might try a different sharpening method as some of the edges appear oversharpened. 8)

Sweet action shot here. You did very well, especially considering your focal length limitation.

I observed these guys over the weekend in Nebraska and quickly remembered how tiny they really are. In FL they seem bigger but that is only b/c one can get sooo close to them.

Well Done!
