Just returned from a wonderful two hours at the Wildlife Science Center in Forest Lake, MN. Spent some time with the Gray Wolves there and this was one of the many results I was pleased with. Finding a background that is pleasing can sometimes be difficult, but this guy decided to pose nicely right in front of some pines which allowed me to keep any fences blurred and out of the background. I hope you like the result.

Great expression and detail. can't say I care for the frame though.

The wolf image itself is terrific! While some may like the frame personally I think it detracts significantly from the otherwise excellent image.

Since there have been a few "the frame hurts the image" reponses, here is the unframed version. I've been experimenting with frames and personally liked this one, and i know its all a matter of personal preference, but for those that dislike the frame here's the unframed one.

Chris,

I think this is a much stronger picture without the frame. While you did pick a color that was in the image as a 'frame' it did not seem to me to be a good choice for an image of a wolf. I expect a good many people here would prefer to see the image itself use up the 600 pixel size as opposed to having a smaller image and a large frame. Smaller frames, like drop shadows may appear to give more dimension to a shot without detracting from it and still allowing the maximum image size. It is however personal preference.

That piercing stare is wonderful, and your composition is great. I also like having all the pixels used for the image.

Nice image...great place to shoot isn't it. You did well on the BG and I think this would look great as a Vert. too.
