Wrybill (Anarhynchus frontalis), Miranda
These guys are about the size of a sanderling I think and are quite aproachable, so when the other birds aren't cooperating the wrybills are usually willing to play the game. Endemic to NZ and the only bird to my knowledge with a right-curved bill (I'll try to find a shot to post next which shows this distinctive feature).
Comments/critiques? Hammer away (there is a highlight in larger version).

Wrybill ... now there's an interesting bird. Regarding the bill turn, I think it's also true that it's the only bird whose bill isn't bilaterally symmetric, except for the crossbills.

I was lucky enough to find these when I visited NZ in 1998. Where did you photograph this? Miranda?

I would crop about 20% off the top and about 10% off the bottom, although as posted it's in a good cover format.

Interesting little bird, I will look out for them next time I'm on your side of the ditch. :D

Thanks for the crop suggestion Mike. I considered cropping a bit but decided I'd put it up full frame and await comments. Was shot at Miranda, which is on the Firth of Thames, North Island. Probably one of the best wader spots in NZ.
