Image shot yesterday at Ding Darling. I found a few yellowlegs mixed in with some shorebirds and it was a challenge trying to isolate them. To make it even harder, it started to rain lightly. Suddenly, all birds but these two flew off, which now made my job a bit easier. The light was very low, and because of the rain, I decided to skip using flash. I waited until both birds appreared in my viewfinder and fired off a few shots. I still don't know why these birds stayed and the others flew away, but I'd like to believe Nature was sending me another gift.
Canon D60, 600 IS, 2X, ISO200, 1/80, f/8, RAW. Slight crop on right and bottom.
Comments welcome.

Rich, no kidding on the gift. A wonderful shot, well composed and awesome getting two different species matched so well.

Great illustration of the difference between these species. Excellent image that would be even stronger, IMHO, if the bottom were cropped to just above the reflections of their bodies. 8)

Totally agree a great shot. You were persistent and got excellent results. I like the way a 600 with a 2x flattens the angle to the birds.

BTW they stayed probably to have their picture taken :)

Great portraits of each and what a way to compare their relative sizes and shapes. The composition is very fine with a great blance of environment and simplicity around the birds to make them pop out. I photographed the Lesser the day before in Ding Darling; his name is Fred. I was in Ding Darling yesterday morning as well but the Yellowlegs were too far off then.

Terrific shot of both. I never realised the greater was that much greater.

Wow, this would make a GREAT bird ID book shot! The fact that you got both types of bird in the shot offsets the slightly distasteful stuff in the water. Well executed!

I agree with Bill's crop suggestion.
