This young bull moose had come into our yard with his mom. The cow moose went down to the salt lick. The bull stayed in the middle of the yard. It was snowing when I took this photo. Carol W

Nice catch of this youngster Carol and the falling snow makes a very appealing scene. I just wish there was less to the left of the image and a bit more to the right. Other than that, being a fan of tight crops, I might just turn him into a vertical with just a little BG on either side. Either would work well IMHO.

Having said that, you have captured him really well with perfect exposure and DOF and I love the dusting of snow on his nose! 8) :)

I hope there's more where this came from!!

At the very least, I'd crop off that branch on the left. I think that would better balance the shot and get rid of a distraction.

It is nicely exposed. The light is flat, but the presence of the snow makes up for that. (Besides, exposing moose in stronger light is always problematic!)

But I always love moose shots. Definitely my favourite ungulate! (At Elk Island on Monday night, I found ten of them in under an hour--a record for me, I think--but only took one picture...)

Very cute youngster. I agree with both cropping suggestions above although I personally would probably go with the vertical crop. Nice job on the exposure and I love the dusting of snow.

Good critiques already offered about other successful crops in addition to the one presented. I just want to say that my favorite weather for photography is falling snow and so I really like this one!

Good exposure with the contrast. The snow, especially on the nose, is perfect for the habitat touch. Great to see another Alaskan posting! :D
