This nursing attempt by the lamb was very brief- the ewe quickly ended it. This was taken in late August in Denali National Park so I assume the milk store was closed for the season.

Tim---neato photo! How did you get so close? Were you at a bus stop or did you have some other fortunate access?

The sheep are interesting, and the nursing attempt makes you look twice, but the drama in this comes from the background. Is that snow, glacier, waterfall? And the layers in the mountain? back there are interesting as well. Not sure the attention being drawn away from the animals is a good thing, but I enjoyed seeing this.

Juli- This spot was a 2 hour hike one way from the road and about a thousand feet higher. It was in the Polycrome Pass area. I had been well above this group while looking for rams. Since the boys were not to be found, I spent some time with ewes and lambs on the way back to the road.

They had watched me move around on the mountain for several hours so my presence was not a surprise when I closed in on them via a ravine. When I poked my head and camera lens out of the ravine, I was within 40 yards. They watched me intently for a while but after 30 minutes or so I didn't warrant much more than the infrequent glance. I also used a 500 + possibly a 1.4 TC.

Noel- That's the north side of mountain with snow in the avalanche chutes in the upper part of the frame. The diagonal line just above the upper sheep is another ridge line.

Wonderful shot Tim.. Nice interaction with the little one trying to nurse and the other one looking right to you.. My favorite thing here is the depth that is provided both by the lighting and the mts in the background.. As per your usual high standards, very well done

Tim, I really like how you captured sheep going about their business with this dramatic scenery as a backdrop. It would be even better with the nursing lamb's face visible, but don't see how that would have been possible.

I agree with the others. The sheep are great, but the background and the 3D feeling are what puts this over the top for me. Perfect DOF selection.

Very nice shot Tim! Great interaction between the subjects and wonderful inclusion of their environment, all brought together with perfect DOF to give real depth to the image and pop the sheep out of the image. Excellent job!! 8) 8) :)
