Capture: Canon 1Ds, 70-200 @ 200

Took this yesterday. I though the horizontal cloud patterns might contrast with the vertical rows of the canola to make an interesting graphical image. Does it work?

Thanks,
Eric

Excellent catch. Great graphic appeal. Works well for me. I've seen people put out whole books & print exhibits with just this style of image.

Yeah, I really enjoy this one. Everything comes together, from the overall exposure to the lines to the colors to the balance of the two main sections.

yup.

It works for me. It looks more like a surrealistic painting than a photograph.

Intersting. Did you work with any vertical crops of this?

I like it too! But TBH there's more sky than I think is needed. OTOH if the field were dominant I might feel the same way about that. I tried cropping to a 1:2 ratio and that improved it for me.

Eric, Yes, this works, and works really well for me! I like the contrasting colors and the almost perpendicular lines between the clouds and canola.

Eric,

This is very nice!! The colors and the horizontal clouds take this from ' 'interesting pattern, but ordinary' to great!

A truly superb stock shot! I saw this on Luminous Landscape this morning! Simple with lots of impact - well seen and photographed!

Thank you all for your kind words.

Richard - I did not shoot any verticals. I probably would have except that I didn't really have any more field (the frame is near the bottom edge) or a longer focal length with me.

Lillian - This is cropped on either side to a 4X5 aspect ratio. I played around with a few other crops - it seems very simple images like this lend themselves to a lot of 'fiddling'. The proportions here are somewhat unusual for me (being a pretty relentless thrids kind of guy most of the time) but they just felt right at the time.

cheers,
Eric
