Skogvoll Nature Reserve

My home county Andøy is a naturalist eldorado. While human impact in many areas are severe (because of farming activities and extensive cabin building - where people stay during holidays) other areas are left alone. We have wetlands, steep mountains, rolling hills, miles of white beaches, farmland, fjords, arctic forests and an extremely varied climate. All this makes for interesting photography all year round. This image is from one of the largest nature reserves on the main island, which houses some of the richest variety of fauna and flora in Europe.

This is http://www.ramsar.org's description of the area:

The mire area is one of the most extensive lowland Atlantic mire complexes in Norway, dotted with numerous ponds and lakes. The other half of the area consists of shallow marine waters, with islets and skerries, tidal zones and a rare lagoon system with brackish and fresh water. Wet salt-influenced meadows fringe the shorelines. The marine part of the site is important for staging migratory birds, particularly Pink-footed Goose Anser brachyrhynchus. The system of brackish lagoons with freshwater flora (Hippuris, Potamogeton) in the tidal zones has been noted by botanists as very rare. Human impact upon the site is very low.

Nice. I like the three buncheds of grass in the FG. The light is great.

Well seen and photographed! IME scenes like this, while pretty in person, are difficult to capture in a pleasing photograph. You found great like and a peaceful composition.

Nice scene, good light. I might nip a little bit off the top.

This is a wonderful image. Great light and you've composed it beautifully. While cropping from the top probably won't hurt the image I don't know it would actually help it either. I think it is outstanding the way it is.

Hey Svein

this is great. I really like it. A image perfect for a book cover. I don't think it needs to be cropped from the top ... everything's in place, IMO.

Cheers

Svein,

I love the warm light in this scene. It makes me want to look at for a long time. But then the bare spot in the LLC starts to grab my attention. To bad you could not have move over to the right to fill it in with some other grasses. Other wise a great image.

Very nicely done - I especially like the way you've composed the foreground tufts. This does a great job of portraying this vast and beautiful space.

sweet shot. I like the presentation. Are you planning on selling a line of poster prints?

I love a well-done vertical grand scenic, and this definitely fits the bill.

I really like how it is composed down below...it lets my eye skip from plant to plant as it move along the bottom and then into the frame, spreading out into the distance.

Svein-Frode,

This is a wonderful shot! I like it a lot, and I like this type of nature very much as well. Reminds me of northern Sweden (which isn't soo far away from where you took this).

For those who haven't had the opportunity yet - a word of advice. When out hiking across a mire like this - remember to always keep up the pace... You get that sinking feeling if you stop. If you just continue on you can usually cross safely even if you actually can see your wake extend as waves behind you...

Thanks for sharing,

Anders

Nope, I'm just experimenting with presentations for my website which has been screaming for an update for a year now! I've been too busy setting up other peoples websites I'm afraid... But now I'm scanning and editing like hell to get a step closer to updating and adding some content. This was just sold as a fine art 13 x 19 print, two days after I captured it - this Sunday!
