Was headed up there after Christmas and it started snowing while driving to Kayenta. Endd up staying there overnight and headed to the visitors center the next morning.

Grat shot, Eric! Is the snow a little blue, maybe?
Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

Monument Valley does look spectacular with snow. The sceen is indeed beautiful. The problem that I have is that visually, I have no interested in the foreground rocks. My eye wants to push them out of the way to get to the good stuff in the back.

Eric, This place is beautiful in snow! Did you use a polarizer? The top part of the sky looks unrealistically dark.

A very nice shot and a slightly different angle from this classic shooting spot.

Eric, way to be in the right place at the right time. This is a great composition and a beautiful scene. I agree that the top of the sky is a little dark. The sun looks to be at your back which makes me think the buttes are dark from the clouds instead of their own shadows. Did you happen to get any other shots as the clouds were moving with better light on the mittens?

A truly great scene, but the light wasn't perfect. The landscape needs more light (like you have in the foreground) and the sky is too dark. A little photoshop work can bring more out of this.

I like your composition here; though the FG rocks aren't compelling in and of themselves, they serve to anchor the shot and give us a new perspective on something we have all seen before.

The light could have been better. Unfortunately you have shadow on both the classic formations. Based on placement of the other shadows, I think this is due to clouds rather than sun angle, which means that had you waited you might have gotten them spotlit (spotlighted?) which would have allowed them to be the true focus of the image.

Not sure if the snow is too blue or not..

Kelly, Used a polarizer.. Specifically the Moose warming filter...

John, It was in he mid morning and I do have another image with the mittens in some better light, but have to scan it first.

Eric,

I would love to see some other shots like this after you scan them. Just be careful not to blow out the whites when scanning - some of the snow on the rocks looks almost too white with no detail.
