White Bengal Tiger - (c) Miami, Florida, USA
EOS 10D, 100-400 @ 330mm, 1/500, f/8, ISO 400

While in Miami the last few days, I took the opportunity to visit the Miami Metrozoo - in my opinion one of the better zoos in the USA. I was pleasantly surprised to see a white Bengal Tiger there. I had just finished reading an article on White Tigers a couple of days earlier. Only one white Bengal Tiger has ever been found in the wild and he was captured in the 1950's. All of the worlds white Tigers, all in captivity, are a descendant of this white tiger, or so the article stated.

Great shot, looks like he's got plenty of space to run around...

Yep, all white tigers are Bengal's and all, as you say, descended from one White Tiger 50 years ago. Say's a lot for the white tiger gene pool, huh.

Beautiful shot E.J.

Horrendous to think all the white Tigers have come from just one animal. The in-breeding required to maintain that gene has resulted in fathers and daughters, mothers and sons and sisters and brothers being the only Tigers capable of producing any white cubs when mated. This has resulted in all sorts of problems from malformed and prematurely dying cubs, to major inherited defects such as back and spine problems.

Won't it be great when man stops interfering with nature.

Cool shot, EJ -- the white tiger stands out well against the uniform green background, which you did well to find and utilize in a zoo. The two left legs intersecting gives a bit of an odd pose.
