I'm interested to hear from user(s) of this new Canon i9100 printer. It is said to have the advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology with print head features 3,072 precisely machined nozzles and will print photos up to A3 (13" x 19") size. How does it compare with Epson's 2200?

Any link reference to review/test report will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks!

The two printers are really very different. The Canon produces excellent prints and does so at very high speeds relatively to the Epson. The Epson on the other hand also produces excellent prints but with a significantly longer display life. The Canon printer uses dye based inks which are somewhat more prone to fading than the pigment based inks used in the 2200. Don't be fooled by droplet size or DPI. Anything below about 6 picoliter droplets and more than 1440DPI is not visible to the human eye, even under a loupe.

The I9100 is considerably less expensive than the Epson 2200. If you can find the older but very similar S9000 you can buy it for less than 1/2 the price of a 2200. I have the S9000 and it is an excellent printer. Canon inks and papers are rated (by Canon) for a 25 year life span. Alas, Canon papers are not available at places like Costco so you pay a bit more for them. The six tank ink system is wonderful. I still have not replaced my original Black, Cyan and Magenta while the Photo-Cyan and Photo-Magenta have been replaced twice. Yellow has been replaced once.

Wilhelm Research is promising to publish the results of its longevity tests on various printer, ink, paper combinations in the near future. You can find them at :

Thank you EJ and Paul for the input!
Comparing price and performance, the i9100 is very attractive and is at the top of my laundary list. Will do more research on users experience then ...

I just ordered a Canon S9000 from newegg.com for $254 with free FedEx saver shipping. Looking forward to receiving it in a few days.
