Caught this lizard running around a park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shown here on an Australian Pine. Not sure what species it is, but there appears to be a whole population of them running around wild (and they literally do run, on their hind legs). They're about a foot to 14 inches long.

Noel,

I have no clue what it is but you have captured it very well. It does look a bit prehistoric. Thanks for sharing.

Amazing photo! Looks like beautiful specimen of Common Basilisk (Basiliscus basiliscus) to me, they should be native to Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela.

Hmmm, perhaps an exotic pet (pregnant or a pair) got loose and moved in. They're quite entertaining to watch, and a real surprise in what's otherwise a pretty mundane suburban park (the park's name is C. B. Smith Park for you other Florida residents).

I've also seen big Iguanas in the parks down here.

I am looking in my Peterson guide. The only Basilisk known to Florida is Brown Basilisk - introduced from Central America. Also, I forgot to add, they are so fast that they can run on water .... and now I read that because of that people call them sometimes Jesus Christ Lizards.

It would be interesting to count them and watch them if they reproduce

Gorgeous. My only nit would be that the tree trunk appears a bit hot.

Nice shot! It certainly does look like the run on water variety. 8)

What a cool looking lizard. Great shot. Probably a escapee :)

I really like this one....very prehistoric look. maybe just a little more room in the frame could improve it slightly but a solid image as is.

I do love reptile shots!!! This one is quite colourful too. Great depth of field and good composition. Thanks for posting, Noel.
