My Epson 1290 recently died so I,ve upgraded to an R2400. Prints on Glossy paper using the Photoglossy black are fine, but when I tried printing on matte paper using the photomatte black the prints came out muddy with no contrast. Can anyone offer any help ?.

Neil, I assume you mean "Matte Black" ink -- there is no ink called "photomatte". Which paper are you using? Are you sure you're using the correct paper profile and that the printer driver settings are correct?
