I am in search of a backpack solution that will accomodate a laptop. I currently have the Lowepro Nature Trekker AW, which suits my needs just fine, but when I travel I would like to be able to take my laptop as well.

I have found the following
Delsey 33 http://www.penncamera.com/store/view.cfm?id=4497
Lowepro Stealth http://lowepro.com/pages/series/stealth/stealth.htm

I am not averse to replacing the Lowepro if need be, but hopefully I can find a solution where I can go with the two carryon solution as opposed to the less than universal photographer three carry on guidlines. What are most of the people here using? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Tamrac make a backpack style bag which had a compartment for a laptop as well as the usual places for cameras and lenses. It is well made and well padded. I like mine a lot. I'm not sure of the model number, but I think it is 5279 or 5299 or..... You can find a description on their web site.

Lowepro now has a a new bag called the CompuTrekker. When I saw it it seemed similar in size to the mini-trekker but a bit deeper to accomodate a laptop. It may be a little too small for what you are looking for.

When travelling I take as carry on my RoadRunner AW and my laptop bag, while packing my tripod with my clothes in a checked bag.

Swampduck-

Tenba also makes one shown here. I thought they had another one too, but I don't see it on the site. All their bags come with a 5 year guarantee. I just had a zipper repaired and there were no problems getting it done under the warranty, other than being a little slow. Let me warn you, though, they do not answer their email. Best to give them a call.

I think this is what I was remembering:

Hi,

My Lowepro PhotoTrekker AW takes Canon 500/4, various acessories PLUS laptop (old Fujitsu Lifebook) on side pocket. Phototrekker is very nice for back. Sometimes I got to check it is still there while I'm walking

I went to my local camera store and they had a Tenba DC-17, I put all my stuff in it and decided it would work. It is about the same size as my Nature Trekker, but deeper to accomodate my laptop. It also has a weather cover as well. It holds the following equipment right now

Canon 1D + 100-400IS attached with hood reversed
Canon 28-135IS
Sigma 24-70
Canon 17-35
550EX Flash
Dell Latitude C600
1D battery charger
laptop charger
extra 1D battery
6 Cokin Filters + rings
misc accessories

It is a heavy beast when packed, but the sternum straps allow it to rest on my hips to take the weight off my shoulders.
It is well made bag. This will allow me to still have second carry on and not have to worry if the airline will allow me the third bag.
