hey folks,

I've been away for the holidays (and should be away again, as of tomorrow morning!) and have yet to catch up with all the images posted.

This is the 2nd of my whitetail portraits that I wanted to post, shot in the Smokies last month. I really was looking for some classic (maybe "cliché"???) images of nice whiltetail bucks in the forest. I spent a LOT of time, and didn't shoot very much at all. Unlike the last buck I posted, this guy was VERY skittish, rarely coming in close enough for a shot, and even rarer were the moments he'd stand still long enough for me to manage a decent composition. However, he was by far the prettiest buck I saw there, so I spent my time hoping he'd co-operate, and/or I'd get lucky. I was especially hoping for a shot with some snow on the ground, but so far, no cigar. This particular morning we had some light snow, but the shots I got with snow on the ground weren't too good. I only got a few shots of him, but was happy with this one.

I cropped a sliver from the bottom.

All comments welcome and appreciated.

Cheers

Carl

Carl,
That is a great looking animal. Nice shot, very nice. There is a black mass at the bottom of the frame. I think I might have croped that all out?? maybe.

I'd say your persistence paid off- this is an excellent shot. Certainly a classic pose. The branches at the top and nicely OOF background give the image a nice "in the forest" feel.

Hey folks,

I looked at the image this morning and it appeared darker than I thought it was last night .. so I adjusted it a tad in P/s, and also cropped a hair from the bottom .. this is probably 95% of full frame.

Carl,
Shots like this are classics for a reason...Great Job. Great looking buck. You can tell he spends a lot of time in the thick stuff...that ear is pretty torn up. The second post really pops.

Nice work, both posts are successful, the second one stronger IMHO.. I really like the green branches framing the top. Sharp as can be. and a very nice size in the frame...Well done and thanks for sharing here.

Carl, this is great. I really like how he's framed by the tree trunk, lush greenery and the brown leaves. I definitely prefer the brighter, cropped repost, and am glad to see that I'm not the only one struggling with PS.

Carl,

I like this alot! I guess that black lens is capable of a few sharp images! ;) I particularly like the framing with the Hardwood tree behind him and how the background darkens behind while still giving some detail as well. I can't wait to get my film back. You 'uns done good! :)

Happy New Year!

This is one of the nicest whitetail images I think I've seen. Nicely done. I prefer the repost.
