This was taken at Pousada Piuval in the Pantanal. This guy was sunning himself on this tree trunk and allowed me to get very close (within 6 feet or less). There were lots of cool lizards around the Pantanal. Unfortunately most were very skittish. This is the only one I really got some nice sharp shots of.

Canon Eos10D + Canon 400mm f/5.6L @ f/9.0. Fill at -1 2/3.

Enjoy,
Chris Fagyal

Its a bit hot, but I like the feel of the habitat that the leaves provide.

No idea what it is, but I can say with absolute certainty that none of them occur naturally in AK.

Nice shot Chris. I always enjoy seeing reptile pictures.. Its not a Gecko as they have a very unusual slit shaped pupil (not round) and its not a true old world chameleon as they have a conical projection for an eye.. Other then that, I would have to have a look in a lizard book... Maybe someone else will have more information first. Thanks for posting at NatureScapes.net.

Hey Chris,

I agree, it looks a tad hot. I like the setting, and the fact that he's only hallf visible adds to the sense of habitat.

Cheers

Hi Chris, interesting shot and nice up and under pose!

For what its worth this may be a Collared Lizard. Its hard to tell from the underside like this, but Collared Lizards have two black bands on the base of the neck where it joins the back. This looks like it may have these ?
