Mule Deer, Bosque del Apache, San Antonio, NM

Hi Wildlife! How are you getting along over here? ;)

While in Bosque, we were fortunate to have this beautiful buck strike a pose for us on the second to last afternoon.

Thanks to the rule of 88!

Comments welcomed!

EOS 10D, EF 600/4 IS, 1.4TC, 1/800 @ f8, ISO 200, beanbag from car, un-cropped.

I agree with Cheryl on all counts! This buck seems to be giving you a suspicious look as if he's not sure whether or not to let you hang out on his turf.

Hey Greg,

Are you lost or something? :D

Nice shot .. as always, the techs are 'on', though I wish you'd caught him with his ears up.

I really have a hard time composing these kinds of portraits without giving the feel of a 'head on a wall' . the inclusion of the f/g brush here helps avoid that, IMO.

Cheers

Carl

Greg,
Fantastic shot. The swollen neck shows he is well into the rut. The light is very nice and the OOF background really makes him pop.

What's the rule of 88?

very nice shot, greg; I saw this guy and a couple does on the marsh loop but he never came out clear enough for a shot, very well done

I agree. These critters were very elusive!
