Anyone have any recommendation for a soft lens case for the Canon 500. I carry the 300 F4 as my lens on my camera and would like to lug the 500 along sometimes.

Aside from a backpack, I use the Domke long lens bag for my 600. While it fits with the zipper closed when the hood is reversed on the lens, I often just shove the lens in there and leave the balk sticking out when going from place-to-place in the car. It has a good shoulder strap and a handle on top. It also has removable rigid plastic inserts, making it hard-sided, but I took them out for pack-ability.

I use the Kinesis long lens case L525 which I believe has been updated to the L526. It has quite a bit of padding in it and a great shoulder strap. The padding can be removed and is a bit bulky but I travel with it. Although, it is not advertised as waterproof the bag saved me during an absolute summer monsoon two years ago when I was at the tip of Honeymoon Island.

One thing I really like about the bag is that it is shaoed like an upside down U--I keep it in the back of my SUV and it does not roll around on the flatside.

The Lowepro lens trecker is a great way to go. It holds my 500+1.4x extender + 10D with battery pack like it was made for it. $129 @ B&H

I carry my 500 in a LowePro Roadrunner. It also has room for two bodies, 100-400, another lens and lots of other stuff. It has a retractable handle and wheels. Is the largest legal carry-on bag. BTW you can also fit a 600! (Both lenses without shade that you need to bag separate)

Rob, do you mean carry around on your back or in the car? The Lowepro with belt and shoulder harness has far less flop when wearing than the Kinesis on your back.
