Does anyone out there use a custom curve in their D100 (or other DSLR for that matter) ? I'm referring to the option of downloading a custom curve into the camera rather than post processing. Some of the stuff I've found while browsing indicates that a curve which boosts the mid-tones by maybe 0.5 stop is beneficial as it allows you to set an exposure which ups the midtones without risking clipping the highlights as might happen with a +0.5 exposure compensation. If nothing else, doing this in camera saves you a step post processing a NEF file. The downside is that I use Phase One DSLR LE rather than Capture so I would need to buy a copy of Capture to be able to play with this (I already used up my 30day free eval - anyone know how to edit the Win XP registry to get around that ?)
