This is the same weasel, or stout for those in Europe, that I posted a picture of earlier. He was checking me out while I was having lunch in Denali NP, AK in late August of this year.

EOS 3, 500/4, 1.4 TC, Provia, tripod.

What a cute shot. Great job being prepared for this one. I'll bet he didn't stick around long.

Does someone know the scientific name for this guy? Stoats and weasels are two different spp. down here and I'm curious as to what this one is. Stoats (Mustela erminea) are one of our worst pests, and are rapidly driving many of our native birds to extinction. Some are predicted to be functionally extinct in the wild in around 10 years. If we are lucky they might survive in intensively managed areas. Photos like this actually make stoats look quite cute and it's hard to feel anger towards them. After all, no stoat ever asked to be brought here.

Nice image! The OOF foreground draws the eye into the photo. I like it a lot. Thanks for sharing.

This is excellent Tim. Way to go... When I scroll up and down on the screen, I like it a little better with a little off the bottom. Love the expression on the face here.. Excellent!

Well done Tim. I am with DEnnis in liking it better with a little cropped from the bottom.

Great shot! The weasel's bright eyes, that curious pose, and the surrounding enviornment are great. I agree that a slight crop from the bottom would help.

I like it but I think it also has too much to the right, especially on the bottom.

Thanks for the comments. :D

Carl- Got it, stoat, not stout. Thanks. NOT like the type of beer...

Nick-Here's a link to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game web site. It has a good narrative of the two types of weasels in AK as well as detailed info on their biology.

We do have the sames species that you call the stoat, Mustela erminea. I'm not sure if this is a least or short-tailed weasel. I did not see the tail. But I'd guess the short-tailed weasel since it seemed to be that size.

This is great! Love the inquisitive look and the paw on the rock really adds to image.

ROFL! Doesn't look like a Guiness at all! Flowers in the foreground, paw and tilt to the head make this really nicely done.
