This is the full moon from October. I was actually hoping to work a moose into a setting moon shot, but found this instead. It was tough, but I tried to make the best of of a bad situation....

Cropped slightly on the left, one light cloned out.

EOS 3, 70-200/2.8, Provia, tripod.

Holy smokes, this is great! Very moody and artsy. Are they mountains or clouds behind the trees? Do you remember how you metered this? As you know, I've had a tough time on exposures with full moon shots.

Kelly- those are clouds or low fog. I shot most of a roll in a few minutes with a variery of exposures and compositions- I don't recall what I metered off of. But I do try to keep the moon shots below 10 seconds to get good detail. With the geese in the frame, this was most likely much shorter than that since they were actively swimming about.

When I saw which image was actually posted, I was disappointed. The image I intended to post was cropped on the left so that the distance between the geese on either side of the frame was equal. Computer woes...

Hey Tim,

Great idea, and a nice shot. I think this is one where placing the moon (the main subject, IMO) closer to the power point would make it stronger. Cropping from the left definitely helps, though I think framing the shot as a whole more to the right would have been better.

For my taste, I'd probably have gone with less water in the f/g and more sky in the b/g, but that's just what I like .. many folks don't.

Cheers

Carl

Great shot, Tim! Simple and elegant with perfect moon exposure. Was it serendipitous that the moon reflection occurred in a spot without birds or did you plan it that way?

The subject matter is powerful one can neglect the composition rules here. At least I liked it the way it is. Wonderful image! 8)

A really cool shot! This offers lots of possibilities for other cropped formats, including panorama. Nicely executed!

Excelent shot. Very well composed. I would try to make the mist a bit more apparent. You could do a little selective dodging with software.

Somtimes situations that don't work out the way I wanted them to produce my best shots. It looks like this did the same for you. This is beautiful. Well done.
