One place I'd like to visit next spring is Cheyenne Bottoms, KS. I'll probably spend more time with the spotting scope than with the camera, but perhaps that will lead to something interesting...

Unfortunately, many Refuges in the West had trouble getting enough water to flood some of the pools this year, including Alamosa, Monte Vista, and Cheyenne Bottoms. Hope for a big winter.

In no particular order

1.Northern Queensland in Australia for all of the endemic bird species, especially such things as Bowerbirds, Birds of Paradise, Fruit-doves, Honeyeaters etc.

2. Thailand for Pittas, Broadbills, Pheasants, Paradise-Flycatchers etc

3. Borneo for Pittas, Broadbills, Pheasants, etc (Ie more of what Thailand has, just different endemics)

4. Back to Ecuador for Hummers at Tandayapa

5. Southern Queensland in Australia around Abberton and Lockyer valley for Bowerbirds, Raptors (they have tons), Honeyeaters, Owls, etc

6. Northern Norway, especially Svalbard and Finnmark in mid to late May for spectacular seabird and shorebird migrations. Thousands of Eiders, Hundreds of thousands of Guillemots and Puffins and such. Other special things inland such as Great Grey Owl, Snowy Owl, Gyrfalcon and others.

I plan to at least do Ecuador, Queensland and Thailand in the next 5 years hopefully.

Where wouldn't I go! :D

Actually I would add the jungles of South America to get a shot of a Jaguar in the wild. I got my Lion and Leopard in June and now I am hooked!

MikeBinOK wrote:I was planning a trip to Jordan when 9/11 happened. It looks like it would be a great place, but I don't see myself going there for years now, if ever. It was inexpensive even back then, and I'll bet it is really cheap now for anyone who is that daring!
I work for an organisation with offices all over the world and my current section is the Middle East.... I've only been to Lebanon and Egypt so far, but due to go out to Palestine in the New Year some time

However, during the recent trip to Lebanon (Beirut) - a fantastic and FRIENDLY place BTW - we had a general Middle East workshop where I met colleagues from all over the Middle East. They were bemoaning the West's perception of the whole Middle East as being anti-West which is just not the case! Yes, they may not agree with what our governments may or may not be doing, but heck neither does most of the UK/USA/wherever, doesn't mean every Arab is out to get you!!

Colleagues particularly in Jordan and Syria were saying that NOW is a great time to visit, even if you're American!! :D

Anyway places I have yet to go, but really want to in no particular order....

Bolivia
Antarctica
Galapagos
Madagascar
India
Sri Lanka
Western Papua (I'm cheating, I went when it was Irian Jaya - but its well worth another look)
New Zealand
Ireland (so close, but....)
Botswana
Namibia (going there in September 2004 - postponed from this year due to work)
Rwanda (supposed to be real friendly nowadays too)
Congo (still not so safe though unfortunately)
Ethiopia
Senegal
Most of Scandinavia
The parks of good ol' USofA
Sure I could think of lots more if tried real hard :)

Cheers,
Simon
In sunny Bolton...
