Spent a few days in the vast boreal forest north (and west in this case) of Edmonton last week. I found the density of the vegetation challenging.

Looking up sometimes simplifies things, especially if there is something interesting in the sky as there was here with the bands of clouds.

I wish the right side wasn't clipped but there was more vegetation on the right so I decided this was the lesser of evils.

thanks,
Eric

This is nice. Simple but it works, the clouds help a lot!

I really like this - the patterns in the clouds balance well with the branches. The clipped branches are only slightly bothersome.

The area around Grand Cache has some wonderful fall colors this year.

Very nice - I bet this is much better without JPEG compression.

Good combo of straight lines and diagonals here. I am always looking at the tops of trees againts the sky, particularly leafless trees, but never can really figure out what works for a good composition. In this case I think the shape and positioning of the clouds are essential to make this interesting. Good eye to see this and recognize the possibilities.
