This is the second image in my lion attack series for this week. It was taken two seconds after the first image. Here, the lioness quickly decided that going for the back of the neck was a bad idea without any help, and swung underneath to try to grab a stranglehold on the throat, initially only hanging on by her front paws while lying on her back. Another wildebeest ran between me and the lion while she swung under, so my shots of that maneuver are mostly obscured. This is again about a 75% crop shot of a 1Ds shot at ISO400, 1/200 at f4 in Av mode at 0 compensation, 70-200 lens at 100mm.

Wow, this is powerful stuff. I hope there's more to come as I can't help thinking she's in danger of falling in the river

Real drama! A bit dark in spots but under the circumstance who had time to think? This would look even better posted a bit larger.

One more wow! Not what I had expected after the first shot, but that's one strong wildebeest to maintain balance while a lion's rotating around its neck and while it's trying to climb a steep bank. Does look like it's going to soon be one wet kitty! One powerful series.

I think that lion is using every muscle he has! Great series of shots and I'll echo everyone else - lucky you to have seen this!
