The hebrew name of this bird is 'hohit' or 'hochit', "ho'ah" is a thistle in hebrew.

Nice shot! This is a common species in Europe but we just got our first record up here last month. The Icelandic name of the bird is also derived from the plant and translates as Thistle Finch (Thistilfinka).

Stupendous! What a bird! and on that spikey thistle! I'm lookin at the dead spaces and was thinkin that a vertical here would look better. Put the eye in a thirds quadrant crosshairs also to boot. The perch juxtaposing the bird is what makes this killer. I never would know about so many other kinds of birds if it weren't for this site. Nice work. Thank you
