Distinguished from the female by the dark band on the head. Its habitat is sandy beaches, goes to feed at low tides as all plovers do.. It is tough lying on sandfly infested craggy breakwater lines..

Setup: 20D / 600mm + 1.4TC
Settings " ISO200 / 0EV, 1/100sec, f/8

It looks very gentle, interesting bird, it has so big head on a small body body,
very good picture, excellent details.

This is truly a very excellent shot. It has a lot of feel to it. It's soft, gentle, dignified. The carmel and brown colors of this particular bird do this I feel, by creating a monochromatic color scheme, which has an extreme calming effect. The dark area around and to the left of his head make his lighter head stand out plus act as a gentle exit point for the viewer. Have you tried this as a vertical? If you did you could get his eye into the upper left thirds crosshairs. It would mean putting some back on the bottom. A little edge sharpening around the eye and bill would look better. I would be really happy to have this photo. Its beautiful... :)

I would agree with the others that this is very nice. I love the low angle, and wonder what repellant you might have used to keep the sandflies away.
