Hello,

In an effort to learn more about bird photography I decided to post a picture here.
This is a photo of a Black Capped Chickadee that is quite tame and not hard to get close to.
Only a small bit of cropping.

Nikon D70 F/5.6 400mm Sigma OS 1/500s

Thanks!

Nice first post there. A couple of suggestions (you are allowed 650 on the longest side as an fyi). I might have left a bit more room in front of the bird but nice feather detail. A bit hot on the whites but nicely done. Welcome

Dan,

Fixed the image size and I was getting the hot spot below the eye on most of the images. I can not blame the lighting because it was very good. I will have to check this next time. Chickadees are great practice birds. Thanks for your feedback and by the way your eagle photo is very impressive.

Nice Chickadee shot Rick, welcome to NSN, it's a great place to learn.

The bird is bit tight in the frame for my tastes - if there was more room to the left of the bird for it to "look" into, it would improve the image.

Welcome Rick! This is a nice image that could be improved with a little more room for the bird to look into and with more detail in the whites. The hot whites may be improved with some PS work (shadows & Highlights) or about a -2/3 exposure compensation. A subject in this kind of light (fairly harsh, overhead) can also be improved with some fill flash + less ambient exposure. :) Keep posting, this is a great start, my first post had totally blown whites and I didn't even know what people were talking about when they told me! :?
